Having established a hugely successful career in the United States on stage and screen, Richard is possibly best known for his role as “Des” in the international hit TV series Mary Kills People for which he was nominated as Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Most recent credits include the Apple+ movie The Tragedy of Macbeth for Joel Coen and Jez Butterworth’s Hills of California for Sam Mendes (on Broadway).

Other films include Mysterious Ways (for which he also served as Executive Producer in NZ), Arthur & Merlin, The Dare, Crazy Famous, A New York Love Story, The Butterflies of Bill Baker, The Exhibitionists, Cafe, Choose, Public Enemies, The Guitar, Deception, Delirious, The Night Passenger (short), Abe (short) and the upcoming Swedish feature Cockroaches.
US theatre highlights include Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem (on Broadway), Cleo, Mary Rose, Entertaining Mr Sloane, WASPS’s in Bed, The Night Season, The King of Shadows, An Evening With Simon Gray and countless ‘One Night’ readings performed on Broadway stages, workshop productions and more.
Before leaving the UK he appeared in Grease (West End & Original UK Tour) and several London Shakespeare Workshops.
In addition to acting, works as both writer and producer, including the 2025 stage play Two Of Us (Watford Palace Theatre, Manchester HOME) and currently has several scripts in active development. Richard’s career reflects a rare combination of work that spans Shakespeare, contemporary drama, prestige television, independent NY cinema and original theatrical development on both sides of the Atlantic, becoming a recognizable name on one side of the Atlantic whilst remaining unknown in his native land.
