David was born & raised in Manchester & went on to train at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
He can be seen playing Dalrymple in BODIES for Netflix. Other recent television work includes SILENT WITNESS, KING JOHN and VERA.

His extensive work in theatre across the UK & abroad includes several seasons with the RSC in Stratford & London, most recently leading roles in THE WHIP, A MUSEUM IN BAGHDAD & KING JOHN. He has also played leading roles at the Donmar, National Theatre, Globe, Regent’s Park & in the West End. His work outside London includes productions at the Royal Exchange in Manchester, Leeds Playhouse, Sheffield Crucible, Liverpool Everyman & Birmingham Rep.
David’s recent work in theatre includes Captain Brackett in SOUTH PACIFIC (Chichester & National Tour), Captain Hook & Mr Darling in Ella Hickson’s WENDY AND PETER PAN & DESCRIBE THE NIGHT for Hampstead Theatre. He has also appeared in AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE & JOURNEY’S END. Both performances earned him awards for Best Supporting Actor at the Manchester Theatre Awards.
David appeared as SWEENEY TODD in James Brining’s ground-breaking & hugely successful production, & subsequent revivals for Leeds Playhouse, Royal Exchange & Welsh National Opera, of the Sondheim masterpiece. For this he received several awards & nominations, including Best Actor at the Manchester Theatre Awards, Best Performance in a Musical at the Theatre Awards UK & Best Male Performance at the Scottish Critics Awards.
